Education

I have a bachelors degree in Political Science and a bachelors degree in History with emphasis in American Studies from Idaho State University.

8th Grade Social Studies is a yearlong survey course that will cover major events United States history in the context of their social, political, cultural, religious and economic significance. We will look at history from a traditional standpoint as well as through the eyes of various participants. A strong background in history / social studies will assist students as citizens in understanding the United States today. Students also learn the critical thinking and communication skills needed to succeed in social studies courses in high school, and your life beyond.

I like to use a method of teaching called the Socratic Method in which a lot of class time will be devoted to discussions. An important component of your education is to develop critical thinking skills. I believe the best way to teach you critical thinking skills is to challenge your opinions and to get you to see why you think the way you do. I will never tell you your opinion is wrong as long as you can support it. Class participation is a must!

My goal for each of you is that you become participating and functioning members of our great nation!

It is important for me to keep parents and students updated on major happenings in my classes. I ask that parents sign up for the remind app.

Instructions are in the "forms" section of this webpage.

Experience

I am entering my 16th year of teaching, and they have all been here, at Wendell Middle School.

I also serve as Student Council advisor and coach our Academic Petathlon team.

Bio

I am a life long resident of Southern Idaho. I live in Wendell with my wife and two kids. I enjoy spending my free time with my family, reading, hunting/fishing,volunteering as an EMT and watching sports. Especially when my beloved Steelers or Red Sox are winning their next World Championship.

I'm passionate about learning and I love to learn new things. If my students can learn one thing for me, I hope that they come to realize that learning is a lifelong process and that they don't stop learning once they graduate high school.
